MORE INFO

  • Who does Games Across Acadiana benefit?

All proceeds from Games Across Acadiana will benefit Miles Perret Cancer Services (MPCS), a local, nonprofit resource center dedicated to serving the families of Acadiana fighting, surviving, and living with cancer.

  • When does the game begin and end?

The app is available for free download now; it will be activated for play from Friday, June 2, 2023 at 8:00am to Saturday, June 17, 2023 at 8:00pm (CST).

  • Who can play?

Anyone can play Games Across Acadiana. However, you must be at least 18 years old to claim a prize. If the winner is under the age of 18, a parent or guardian may claim the prize on their behalf. MPCS Board of Directors and MPCS employees are not eligible to participate in any prize drawing.

  • Do I need a play with a team?

While the app requires you to create a team, you are not required to play with others. You may create a team of one member or join your family and friends in earning points together. But remember - a team can submit only one photo or video per mission. Additionally, any prize won will be awarded to the individual designated as the Team Captain (See below, “Team Captain”). Hint: Your team members may reside anywhere in the world! This is a good way to accomplish Parish Missions - ask friends from other parishes to join your team.

  • How do I Join the Hunt?

    1. Download “GooseChase” app from Google Play or the App Store

    2. Create a new account with an email, username, and password of your choice. Note: If you created an account in a previous game, you can log in to that account.

    • Here there are options to:
      • Select a team picture
      • Edit your Team Name (Example: Johnson Family), and
      • Note your team passcode – if you want others to join your team and participate with separate mobile devices, they will need this code.
    • Once you’ve edited and are ready to move on, press “Join this Experience.”
    OR
    • If you are joining a team that’s already been created, select that team and enter the team passcode (obtain code from team creator).

    5. Enable notifications. We strongly recommend you allow notifications as we will be sending instructions and bonus opportunities throughout the game. Additionally, we will send the winning teams notifications through the app.

  • How do I play?

The hunt consists of approximately 65 “missions.”Each mission has a certain point value. The goal of the scavenger hunt is to perform missions so as to accumulate the number of points required to “earn” entries into the prize drawing. A team may earn more than one entry. Theoretically, if all missions are performed (excluding bonus points or bonus entries), a team can earn up to 5 entries.

The hunt begins on Friday, June 2, 2023 at 8:00am (CST). Upon entering the hunt, you will see a listing of available missions with their point values. You may select any mission you are interested in; missions need not be performed in the order listed. Select a mission from the list and press the “Do this Mission” button to complete it. The app will request access to your camera or microphone – press “OK.”Once you perform the task associated with the mission, you must submit the evidence (photo, video, or text) as indicated. All photo and video evidence must be captured through the GooseChase application. You cannot upload any photos or videos from your camera roll or capture photos of photographs or computer screens unless otherwise indicated in the mission.  Your submission will be forwarded automatically to the Mission Judges and points will be awarded.

Make sure you are completing missions accurately (e.g. “take a picture with a zebra” means take a picture with a real zebra, not next to a zebra on a computer screen). The Mission Judges will review all entries for completion and accuracy. Mission Masters will contact you with any issues; if points are deducted, they will explain the deduction and offer suggestions for a successful resubmission.

  • Team Captain

While missions may be performed in any order, we suggest that your first mission be “Who’s the Captain?” (500 points). This mission calls for the designation of a team captain. Whether you are a team of one or are playing with friends and family, ALL TEAMS MUST DESIGNATE A TEAM CAPTAIN. Simply press the “Do this Mission” button, type the first and last name of the team captain, and click on “Submit.” While the name will be visible to you and your team members, it will NOT be visible to the public in the activity feed. Make sure the captain has a photo ID; they will need to present it in order to claim a prize.

  • How many points do I need to be entered into the drawing?

An entry will be awarded for each 10,000 points earned. No partial entries are awarded. There will be no rounding up.

    • 10,000 points = 1 entry into drawing
    • 20,000 points = 2 entries into drawing
    • 30,000 points = 3 entries into drawing
    • 40,000 points = 4 entries into drawing

Note: the entry is assigned to the team captain (see above, “Team Captain”); team members do not receive individual entries.

Once the hunt has ended, all entries will be entered into a database and assigned an individualized random ticket number. Entry tickets with team captain’s name, team name, and assigned ticket number(s) will then be printed and placed in a raffle hopper along with the purchased entries.

  • Will my submissions (photos, videos, texts) become public?

Unless otherwise stated (i.e. “Who’s the Captain?” mission), all submissions (photos, videos, text) are posted in real time to the app activity feed. Thus, they are visible to every person participating in the game. DO NOT SUBMIT PERSONAL INFORMATION you consider private (INCLUDING, BUT NOT LIMITED TO, YOUR IDENTITY OR HOME ADDRESS). Additionally, participation in the game serves as acceptance of the Terms of Use and consent to the promotional use of said photos, videos or texts without compensation or any additional consent. Participants release and waive any claims and demands against MPCS arising from its use of his/her name, image, or likeness.

  • Why are some submissions in the feed hidden?

From 8:00pm through 8:00am, the activity feed will be hidden from view. During those hours, you can continue to perform missions and submit evidence. Points will be awarded immediately, however, the submissions will not be reviewed for accuracy until the morning. When the feed goes “live" again at 8:00 am, all submissions, including those submitted overnight, will become visible again in the activity feed.

  • Can I comment on my photo/video evidence?

Before submitting your evidence, you have the option (and in some missions, the requirement) to caption your photo or video. You also have the option to revise your caption after submission. In the Mission tab, move over to your “Completed” column. Press the three dots (. . .) on the right side of your team name. Press “Edit Caption.” Once you have edited/added your caption, don't forget to press "Save."

  • Can I comment on photo/video evidence of others?

You cannot comment on photo/video evidence of others. However, you may “like” other submissions by pressing the thumbs up symbol associated with those submissions

  • Can I revise my photo/video evidence after submission?
Yes. In the Mission tab, move over to your “Completed” column. Select the mission you would like to revise, and press “Redo Mission.”
  • What happens if I go to submit a picture or video and the screen is black?

Unfortunately, this is an application error. The best thing to do is close out the application and try again. If this happens after you take your picture or video, your evidence may be lost and you will have to try again before the mission is considered complete.

  • How do I know how I am doing in comparison to others?

Using the navigation tabs at the bottom of your screen, you can keep track of how you are doing via the activity feed and the leaderboard. Both tabs are updated in real time.

  • How do I retrieve messages from the Mission Masters?

Periodically, the Mission Masters will send you messages. They will arrive via “notifications” and may be retrieved within the app with the “bell” icon on the navigation tab.

  • What if I have a question about a mission?

Game questions may be submitted via email to huntacadiana@gmail.com. Mission Masters will monitor the email and respond as soon as possible. Additionally, MPCS staff members will be available on each Saturday during the game, from 10am to 2pm in the MPCS lobby, to answer any questions you may have.

  • Does it cost to play?

It does not cost to play Games Across Acadiana. The application software (GooseChase) is free to download any time and the game will be available for free play June 2 (8:00am) through June 17 (8:00pm).

  • What are my chances of winning?

A random drawing will be held on June 24 at 10:00am. Fifty-one (51) prizes will be awarded. Your chances of winning depend on the total number of qualified entries.

  • Are there other ways to enter the drawing?

Earning points is not the only way to obtain entries. Additional entries may be purchased for $20 each at shopmilesperret.com or call 337.984.1920. Raffle tickets will be available for purchase beginning Wednesday, May 16, 2023 at 8:00am (CST) and ending Sunday, June 18, 2023 at 11:59pm (CST).

  • Anything new this year?

Yes! Last year, in the missions “Au Revoir” and “Wishin’ for a Mission” we asked for your suggestions. We compiled those ideas and incorporated many of them into this year’s game.

    • Again this year, the game starts on a Friday. Thus, you will receive your mission list before the weekend and can make plans accordingly.

    • Every Saturday during the game, we will staff the MPCS Lobby with game specialists (10am to 2pm) who can answer your questions.

    • This year, earn 1,000 points when you visit the lobby of the Miles Perret Cancer Services office and take a photograph with one of our large sunflowers. Personalize the sunflower, letting us know something or someone you are celebrating, and we’ll “plant” it outside, around the office. Join us as we watch our garden grow!

    • We noticed your interest in the parish missions.  This year we added Lafayette Parish.  We have also continued the inclusion of a 2nd mission in each of the ten (10) parishes MPCS serves. In each parish, in addition to the traditional mission, you will be asked to locate a poster with a giant QR Code and photograph it. For each QR picture submitted, your team will be awarded 500 points. Additionally, scan the QR Code in each parish to obtain a unique letter. Once you have obtained all 10 letters, unscramble them to guess the “Parish Mystery Word.” Submit your answer in the “Bonus:  Parish Mystery Word” mission.  Guess correctly and your team will be awarded 5,000 points.

    • In an effort to accommodate out-of-town players, this year we will accept Venmo contributions for the Change for Miles bonus. View all Change for Miles Venmo Rules Here

    • Play with a Purpose – The Board of Directors of Miles Perret Cancer Services is doing something a little different this year.  Rather than sponsoring a traditional mission, in 2023, the Board will offer a  “matching” opportunity.  For every mission you perform successfully, the MPCS Board of Directors will make a  $2.00 donation to MPCS to support our clients, including the purchase of various items such as wigs, essential medical supplies, nutritional supplements, mastectomy items, gas cards to fund travel to treatment locales, etc.

In 2022 there were 9,602 submissions for Games Across Acadiana.  Our goal this year is 15,000 submissions.  Help us reach that goal – it would result in a $30,000 donation from the Board!

  • Are there any ways to get bonus points?

An entry into the prize drawing will be awarded for each 10,000 points earned. There are a few ways to boost your scores with bonus points:

Change for Miles — Earn 10,000 bonus points for each full Change for Miles bottle returned to MPCS before June 17, 2:00pm. Empty bottles may be found in the MPCS lobby. Note: Extra points are not awarded immediately; they will be added to your totals within 24 hours of submission.

Beginning this year, if you are not able to travel to the MPCS office to return full bottles, you may earn 10,000 bonus points for each $20 donation made via Venmo. To be eligible for bonus points, the Venmo transactions must be completed no later than June 17, 2:00pm.

View all Change for Miles Venmo rules here

Creativity Bonus — Returning this year, by popular demand, we have designed a way to reward those teams that go the extra mile with their submissions. Following the close of the game, an independent committee will review all submissions for the missions “EGGspress Yourself” and “The Greatest Show on Earth.” Judging the submissions on creativity and style, the committee will determine the 1st place winner for each of those missions. The 1st place winners will be awarded 10,000 creativity bonus points. The points will be added to their final score after the game has closed. Winners will be notified via the app.

Concentration – Remember the old game show Concentration?  We do – so we added a Concentration style rebus puzzle to our game this year.  As you reach certain milestones in earning points, the Mission Masters will send you clues to a rebus puzzle.  Once you obtain all 6 clues, solve the puzzle.  Enter your guess via the mission “Bonus:  Concentration Puzzle.”  Guess correctly and you will earn 5,000 bonus points!  The points milestones are as follows:

    ■ 3,500 points – Clue #1

    ■ 7,250 points – Clue #2

    ■ 11,500 points – Clue #3

    ■ 15,500 points – Clue #4

    ■ 19,000 points – Clue #5

    ■ 23,500 points – Clue #6

Double Points Days —When completing certain missions on their assigned “double points” days, the values for those missions will double. Don’t worry; if you have already completed that mission, you can redo the submission on the Double Points Day and receive the extra points. Note: Extra points are not awarded immediately; they will be added to your totals within 24 hours of submission. 2023

Double Points Days are as follows:

     ■ Sunday, June 4th: The Greatest Show on Earth

     ■ Tuesday, June 6th: CrocStar

     ■ Thursday, June 8th: American Gothic

     ■ Monday, June 12th: There She Blows!

    ■ Thursday, June 15th: Add Sprinkles

Early Bird Registration — All teams that register to play the 2023 Games Across Acadiana (i.e. “Join the Game”) by 11:59pm (CST) May 19, 2023 will be awarded 500 bonus points.

Lego Mania! — This mission requires a photo be taken of a jar filled with Lego pieces The jar is located in the MPCS lobby. When you submit the photograph, add a caption to your submission guessing how many Lego pieces are in the jar. The team(s) coming closest to the correct number (without going over) will be awarded 10,000 bonus points! Points will be awarded after the close of the game.

Why We Play – All teams registered by 5pm on Friday, May 25, will receive a special mission (via notification) to perform prior to the start of the game.  Those teams successfully completing the mission will be awarded 750 bonus points.

  • Can MPCS Remove a submission?

While MPCS does monitor the feed, it is important to know that the feed occurs in real time. MPCS cannot review the submissions prior to them becoming part of the feed; thus, be mindful that other teams could submit content you may feel is offensive, indecent, objectionable, or inappropriate for viewing. MPCS has the ability to remove such content and does so when warranted. MPCS reserves the right to remove any submission it, in its sole discretion, deems objectionable. Should you have concerns about a particular submission, please contact us as huntacadiana@gmail.com.

  • Where can I find a printer friendly version of the FAQs?

2019 Poster Art

It was an honor and a delight to work with the incredible team at Miles Perret this year. My poster concept was inspired by the story of 1000 paper cranes, in which folding 1000 oragami cranes in a year can grant a wish. It was my wish that by painting at least 100 oragami cranes, I could support MPCS in their incredible mission.. During the painting process, my grandmother was diagnosed with breast cancer, which made this piece even more personal. So each crane was painted with a prayer for the health of those whose lives have been touched by this organization. The bright colors represent hope, and the cranes flying with Milesy towards the Games are meant to show how the mission of MPCS is a journey we make together. I pray that all of Acadiana's survivors and their families will be able to join Milsey and his paper crane friends at Games of Acadiana this year, and in years to come. I cannot thank this incredible organization enough for their kindness, charity, and support.

"It has been a pleasure and my privilege to work as the GOA artist this year. This selection is a blessing in my life just like MPCS is a blessing upon this community. When I was drawing up designs, I was thinking of the phrase "Join the Team." I saw MPCS as this big athletic team with a winning mentality and a very specific goal in mind. I've played sports all my life, and I know what it means to step out onto a field and play with a purpose. My design is meant to embody a jersey that represents that team effort to do amazing acts of charity here in Acadiana. When I think of jerseys, I think of stripes. The color of the stripes derive from the color of the stripes derive from the colors of the Acadiana flag. Next, I wanted to create a symbol that encompassed the roots of Acadiana but also included iconography to represent the many services that are available at MPCS. What was born was a Fleur de Lis made up of symbols for each of those services and has Milesy at the center of it."

Cory Stewart
2017 Poster Art

"It has been a joy and honor to join hands with Miles Perret Cancer Services in creating the 2017 Games of Acadiana poster. Stepping foot into this opportunity, my aim was to create a piece that communicates clearly what the GOA is all about, which lead me to the mission, vision, and core values of MPCS. In the 2017 poster, Milesy stands before a treasure chest, overflowing with hope, support, healing, faith, and love. These are words that MPCS not only cherishes but aspires to share by providing services that help families fight, survive, and live with cancer, at no charge. MPCS is able to lift families up largely by the generosity of sponsors, volunteers, and participants of GOA. The treasure within the chest captures what makes up the GOA and more so serves as a catalyst for spreading joy, bringing the community together, and changing lives.”

Cindy Tee

"I am honored to be chosen as the poster artist for Games of Acadiana this year. Games of Acadiana is a vital part of Lafayette and I am thankful that I have been given the chance to show Acadiana what Games of Acadiana means to me. I've attended Games since I was a child. As a student of Ascension Episcopal School, the very school Miles Perret attended, support for MPCS was central to our dedication to service. The poster art contains four vines, representing "Play Through the Seasons," Each vine is vibrant and filled with fun elements that represent the fun games available. The vines originate from Miles, since without MPCS, Games of Acadiana would not exist. The sun shines behind Mile's heads and hands, showing the hope and light the MPCS brings to families fighting, surviving and living with cancer."

Victoria Topham
2015 Poster Art

"I am extremely humbled to have been chosen as the GOA artist this year - especially as it marks the 15th year of Games of Acadiana. I could not think of a better cause to use my talent to help. I began by thinking about what GOA means to me. To me, Games is a fun, playful event that spreads the message of families living with, fighting, and surviving cancer. The bright colors represent the playfulness of the event. The different sports on the cake show the wide range of activities the event offers. I chose to put Miles looking between the candles like any kid would be, eagerly waiting to blow out the candles. The 15 represents the 15 years of the GOA, but it also conveys the year 2015. The Milesy icon is depicted under the cake showing how the organization is there through every family's journey - lifting them up and aiding them through such a difficult time. I am extremely proud of this poster, and I could not be more honored to have been asked to create this piece of art."

Dailey Thibeaux

"Creating a concept for this painting was a big challenge and required thought and prayers. Normally, I would concentrate on tones, depth, and shadow, but the concept was more important than beauty for this piece. A childhood game came to mind, and I knew it was God’s plan—a medical-based game would perfectly represent this playful event. I am thankful to God for talent and blessings; family, friends, and coworkers for support; and MPCS for the opportunity. I am honored to be the 2014 GOA poster artist, and I can’t wait to see the piece reprinted for event use.”

Theon Guillory
2013 Poster Art

"I am truly honored to partner with Miles Perret Cancer Services in the creation of this painting to promote the 2013 Games of Acadiana. It is an amazing opportunity to play a small part in actualizing the mission of this organization that is a blessing to our community. I have lost both parents to cancer, so I am inspired by MPCS and the people that survive and live with cancer every day. As a community, we can make a difference! Collect your friends, and go play!"

Christa Billeaud
2012 Poster Art

"It was an honor to create this special piece for MPCS. I have walked with family and friends through cancer, and I understand the ripple effect that cancer creates. Pulling from these experiences, I chose to focus the piece on the positive things such as constant support from friends, continuous prayers fro strength and courage, and love that grew exponentially day-to-day."
